On Behalf of | Jan 12, 2018 | Blog, Criminal Law |

New York State law enforcement is always trying to maintain safety throughout the state and hold individuals who break laws accountable for their actions. This week, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that 2017 broke a record for the number of arrests made in connection with the use of fake forms of identification when purchasing alcohol under the legal age of 21. Over the course of the year, law enforcement conducted Operation Prevent, which aims to stop people from underage drinking and establishments from serving underage customers. Fake identification sweeps took place across New York State’s concert venues, liquor stores, bars, and restaurants.

In the Mid-Hudson Valley, there were 142 arrests for selling alcohol to people under the age of 21 and 27 arrests of minors for carrying fake identifications. In total across New York State, there were 1,031 penalties of retailers who violated the State Liquor Authority of selling alcohol to minors. The Department of Motor Vehicles charged 843 people possessing forms of fake identification as they attempted to purchase alcohol under the age of 21.

Law enforcement throughout New York State aims to continue cracking down on illegal alcohol sales to minors as well as the use of fake IDs to purchase alcohol underage. If you have been arrested for a crime of this nature, contact our firm today.
